About this forecast
Air temperature alone badly undersells how dangerous heat can be. Wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) combines air temperature, humidity, wind, and sunshine into one number that tracks much more closely with real heat stress on the body — which is why it's the headline metric here instead of the plain thermometer reading.
- National Weather Service (NWS): WBGT and heat index come directly from the
api.weather.govgridpoints endpoint. Solar radiation isn't published by NWS, so that tile is unavailable on this source. - Open-Meteo: doesn't publish WBGT or heat index, so both are estimated locally from temperature, humidity, and shortwave solar radiation using published black-globe and wet-bulb approximations (Stull 2011; Dimiceli-style black-globe regression). Solar radiation is shown directly.
- Location: guessed from your IP address, refined with a precise browser location request, or searched directly. Your choice is remembered in this browser's local storage.
